“Relations to the Real: The Fugitive Documentary of Stan Douglas and James Casebere”
KERSTIN SCHMIDT is Professor of English and Chair of American Studies at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt/Germany. Together with colleagues from the United States and France, she is the editor of the interdisciplinary review journal Kritikon Litterarum (published by DeGruyter).
She is a member of the board of directors of the Bavarian American Academy (BAA), serves on the advisory board of US-American and Canadian journals, and has ample experience as a researcher and scholar throughout Europe and North America.
Her research and publications interests include modern American drama and theater, ethnic literatures in the US and Canada, race and diaspora studies/Black Atlantic studies as well as media theory.
In her guest lecture, she will bring theories of space/place in American culture into dialogue with documentary photography.
