Conference of the Doctoral Program “Transformation of the Human”

04–05 December 2026, RESOWI-Centre, Room SZ 15.22

The interdisciplinary conference TECHNOSCENES – ANTHROPOSCENES offers a forum for early-career researchers engaged with the current transformation of conceptions of the human and their aesthetic, ethical and epistemic dimensions in literature, art and cultural theory. The focus is on redefining what it means to be human and the nature of the human against the backdrop of two globally significant processes of transformation: on the one hand, the ‘Technocene’, which refers to the profound changes at the interfaces between humans, media and technologies; and on the other, the ‘Anthropocene’, which conceptualises humanity’s lasting impact on the environment and other species. The conference is dedicated to the question of how these processes are reflected, imagined and critically negotiated in literature and the other arts.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Dr Ben de Bruyn, English Literature, UC Louvain, Belgium

The conference languages are English and German.

The deadline for submitting short abstracts (max. 250 words and a short biography) for papers (20 min) or poster presentations is 15 June 2026. Please send your submissions by Email to the organizers:
